First one to get it right wins!

You know how animals have scientific names, well one animal in particular is known to almost everyone by its scientific name rather than any other name. In other words, when someone talks about this animal, they use both parts of its scientific name in common conversation. What animal is it?

I'm not going to spoil this one by giving an answer so soon, but I just happened to know it, not because I'm brilliant and have all scientific names of animals committed to memory, but because some time in the recent past I was doing some research on this animal and came up with that very surprising fact and it stuck with me. I'm guessing my research was based on post I was making here, although that hasn't remained in my memory bank.

Geez whiz, I read that somewhere a long time ago and do you think I can remember it??? NO. Now, it's going to bug me until I do or someone comes up with the correct answer.

LOL, Rose. Don't you hate it when you know something but can't pry it out of the brain cells?

C'mon, everyone...help Rose sleep at night!

OK Leequi, Give us the benefit of your research. Please tell. The rest of us give up. (speaking for myself at least)

Sorry, Rose. This time my research did not pay off. I thought I knew what Marian was looking for, but I was off the track on this one. I shared my answer with her via e-mail and it got a thumbs down. This will probably be one of those answers that everyone says, "Oh yeah" afterwards but there's nothing on the tip of my tongue at this point.

Ta da!!!!!!!!!!! Rose and Leequi, you are absolutely right! I never knew, until recently, that "boa constrictor" was its scientific name. Too bad they didn't make simple scientific names like that for all the animals (and plants).

(edit) I swear there was a reply from Leequi after Rose's.
