While sitting in the big leather recliner watching the Olympic Opening Ceremony last night, I saw the Momma Moose (who had twins, but now there is only one) walk into my garden. She stepped between the bottom rail and middle rail. I have yet to get the rest of the chicken wire on the fence. Mostly because I have put it low on the priority list. It was only a matter of a few min. before the baby joined her in the fence. It was amazing to see how agile she was in going between the rails. The little one had more trouble getting over the bottom rail.

The only thing besides weeds growing in the garden are a few volunteer potato plants. The moose don't care for those. They were even careful to not step on the potato plants.

I took some photos. One turned out quite well. I thought of Lois and her hubby right away. They acused us of penning up the moose one night and releasing them at 6 AM for them to see. Lois said it was the only way I was going to get her out of bed that early in the morning. *grin*

I think you also had that bull moose penned somewhere nearby and released him just as we were leaving. We looked for the mama and twins the next morning we were there, but they weren't anywhere around. You must not have put them back in the pen the night before.

Now how do you know its the same mama moose with the twins, and not just another mama with only one calve? Is it because of their size? Or are there usually just one mama within a certain range? Educate me, Rose.

I know it is the same momma because of her size and color. When you see these animals often enough, you get to learn their special looks. Also, the last time we saw both twins, one had a limp. We are guessing it was eaten by a bear.

It is not unusual for there to be more than one momma and baby in an area. We have at least two that come into our yard.

Oh yes, we think we saw Chocolate and Chip two nights ago too. It has been a very long time since we have seen either of them. For a while I thought Chip was visiting on her own. The only reason I think the pair we saw was them is because of the special mark that Chocolate has. The calf (though she was as big as momma) may have been Chip. But I couldn't get a good enough look at her.

The momma and baby were here again tonight. (Sat.) They didn't go into the garden fence this time. I feel so blessed to be able to see them as often as we do.

Of course there are no moose in my PA garden, but there is a half-gallon of (as yet unopened) Moose Tracks ice cream in my freezer. I've never bought it before but am looking forward to testing it. With a vanilla ice cream base, it's enhanced by peanut butter cups swirled with moose track fudge. Sounds good to me.

Thinking of the real thing,

Oh Leequi, I LOVE "Moose Tracks" ice cream. I bought it for a thank you gift to give to my friend. He insisted that I join him in a bowl. It was the first (and last) time that I've had it. Matter of fact, the first time in months that I've had ice cream. I think it could become addicting. Please be careful. *grin*
