I'm here. I made it. I survived the long flight, a very rainy first day in AK, and two nights of my nephew'w accomodations. We did enjoy a wonderful evening and night at a cabin we rented in Girdwood too.
Our trip from the airport to Seward was exciting. We almost hit a moose with the vehicle we were riding in and then five minutes later a black bear ran across the road in front of us. Of course I was asleep for both of these sightings.
We've done a few hikes up to a lake, to a glacier, and to a river to watch the salmon running. We've seen eagles, an otter, moose, a sea lion, ptarmigan, and I can't remember what else right now.
At this moment I'm at Rose's wonderful home enjoying her generous hospitality. After my nephews accomodations we feel we've died and gone to heaven. The meal she prepared for us last night was incredible and then she showed us a picture of herself proudly holding the salmon after she caught it. We took a delightful walk down her swamp road that she often posts about. I got to see a moose up close and was amazed at how it just ambled along not really minding us too much. The mosquitos were a bit of a problem but not enough to drive us back in. Then this morning Rose knocked on our door to wake us up in time to see a mama moose and her two calves. That was quite a wake up call. Of course my camera batteries were in the charger and I didn't get a picture. But that's OK. I have the picture in my mind.
Now we are about to set off on another adventure. I'm letting Rose and Dan be the tour planners and guides. I'm trusting that they'll provide just the perfect entertainment for the day.
I'll check back in later this evening and maybe give an update. I'm having a great time in Alaska!!!!

Lois, I'm so happy to hear from you and not at all surprised that you are having a terrific time with Rose!! But woman, your timing is off!!! Wake UP!!! Charge the batteries overnight!! ROFLMAO!!! But you are very right, there's so much to see and you want to see it for real, not filtered through a lens, all the time!! I can't wait for your next update! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Hi, Rose!!!!

It seems like my comments are always following Shelley's, but I'm excited for all the great Alaska sights and wildlife you've gotten to see, Lois. I'm also anxious to see your next update. Hope we don't have to wait until you're back home.
Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

Well, Rose came through for us today like a champion. She planned the perfect day for us. We drove down to Homer Spit and took a boat out to Gull Island, a rookery, and saw puffin, gulls, cormorants, murre, and even an otter. It was amazing. So many birds in one place. The noise and the commotion reminded me of a city of birds and everyone hustling and bustling.
Then the boat took us on over to a Halibut Cove, a charming fishing community of only 120 summertime residents (30 winter residents)many of which are artists and all in the same family. It was a delightful town with no roads - people boat everywhere or walk the boardwalks. We ate lunch on the deck of the only restaurant in town and had a wonderful time. I probably took 80 photos today. The weather held out for us and once again I enjoyed a sunny day here in Alaska. (Before we left home I checked the 10 day forecast for the Kenai Peninsula and it was rain. So far we've had only 1 1/2 rainy days.)
I probably won't get back on line until I'm home, so I'll have more adventures to tell about.
Rose says "Hi".

Lois, how are you even going to want to go home?? When I finally get the chance to visit, Rose is physically going to have to deposit me on the plane to get me out of there, LOL! I'm so glad the weather is holding out and that you are adding so many new things to your memory banks. Can't wait to hear more.

Well, Lois and hubby have left our humble home to go climb a glacier up to the massive Harding Ice Field. It was hard to let them go. We had the best time with them. I do hope they come back to Alaska for a much longer visit with us soon.
Marian, I'm sure you would gladly leave here as soon as the temp. started dropping and snow started coming down the mountians before winter set in. *grin*
