Dear Aunt Marian,
On July fifth, we went to Goldwater Lake to see the scenery. Suddenly Mom hollered, A HERON! LOOK! LOOK! A HERON!
Rebecca and I were practically on the other side of the lake, but we had no trouble hearing her. But I missed it, she said it flew away just as I got to her.
Later on everyone went for a walk around the lake, and I spotted the Great Blue Heron!
As it soared in the air.
Up, Up, and away. It was lovely!
Love Hanna

Hi Hanna, Welcome to the board. I know Aunt Marian will love reading your post.

I love Great Blue Herons. They are so graceful and pretty. Have you seen one catch a fish yet? It is interesting to watch them turn the fish around so that that head is pointed down their throat before swalling it whole.

You live in a wonderful area for all kinds of wildlife. Have you seen coyote? Elk? Pronghorn or as they are sometimes called, Antalope?

Hanna, you got to see a blue heron in flight? I've never been able to see one flying. They're always sitting by the edge of a pond or a lake when I see them.

Hey, when it rains or snows do you ever see any animal tracks?

Hanna I never get tired of seeing Great Blues!
We live along an inland lake and I see them everyday. They are beautiful and graceful, but even they can't take on a Canada goose. I once saw a male goose attack a Great Blue for lurking around a female goose who was laying on her eggs. No easy meal for him that day!

Hanna, I love great blue herons too. We have three that live around here and come to our pond quite a bit. I even saw one in our creek this past winter when there was snow on the ground!

Our geese haven't seemed to mind the herons too much. But they haven't been around their nests, so maybe that's why.

Mmmmmmmmmmm....Baps
