Well, I'm gearing up for my big Alaska vacation. We leave the 26th for Seward, AK, to visit with my nephew and a member of this board. I've been gathering all the necessary items and trying to get my house in order for the housesitter. My nephew lives in a one-room log cabin without electricity, heat, water, or toilet. So I'm wondering how I'll fare in those accomodations for 9 days. A couple days, no problem, but not 9. We'll see. The weather report for the next 10 days is rain. Pray for some sunshine for us. I also hate leaving my pets for so long, but they are in good hands with my neice and her husband moving into our home for that time. I miss them all already. I just wish they could understand what's going on, why we're not here with them.
This morning we were awakened by the sound of barking dogs. When we went to see what the fuss was about, we discovered a horse in our yard. It mosied down our drive and up the road. So we called all our neighbors that we knew had horses. None of theirs were missing. So a little while later we looked out and saw one of them walking it back down the road, easy to do since it had a bridle on. He must of decided to go get it anyway and find out who it belonged to.
A few weeks ago we discovered cattle tracks all over our yard and around the pond. My flowers that were planted on the other side of the pond had been eaten down. We realized we had left the back gate open and 6 of our neighbor's steers had gotten out of the pasture. Oops. That had to happen on a day we were gone. We were lucky they didn't discover the flower beds around the house.
The goslings are taking flying lessons these days. Did I tell you all that another goose family moved in? So we've had 11 ducks and two goose families. Talk about watching where you step!!! So now they are learning to fly and we're hoping they head off for the river soon.
We had an adoptathon at the mall today. Several animals were adopted (haven't got the final count yet). But my foster dog wasn't one of them. Hopefully some of the inquiries will fill out an application Monday. While we were at the mall with several shelter and foster dogs, the shelter filled back up again with surrendered animals. So with no where to put the dogs that didn't get adopted at the mall adoptathon and would be returning to the shelter, that means some had to be put down this afternoon. I left the event about an hour before it was over and there were still about 7 dogs there. So hopefully in that hour more were adopted. And hopefully some of the foster parents that had dogs adopted today went and took another one home with them.
