This is the latest update from the eaglecam family. Lucy and Schroeder are the names they have given to the 2 eaglets and the story they tell here is another cautionary tale, happily, with a good ending this time.

This was an addendum that Garry and Loraine added in the middle of all the reply posts, referring to the one eaglet, trying to help the other. Amazing!

I apologize, I meant to and yes we definitely have to give big sister, Lucy, credit too. While watching her react to the line caught on his foot (she fussed with it for quite a while) then the success of cutting if off freeing her brother, on two occasions I might add, her compassion was proven. She could have used the situation with a different advantage but didn't. From human perspective it's love, between birds most likely the same I'm not sure, whatever it is, it was amazing to watch...

Garry and Lorraine have officially changed the names of the eaglets to Lucy and Linus (not Schroeder). Nicer, imho <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> (Schroeder wasn't Lucy's brother, Linus was)

I hate fishing line! I can't tell you how many yards and yards of fishing line I've collected from river banks and a lake shores. Why do people toss it like it's going to just "disappear". I once saw a small bird flapping its wings desperately in a shrub as I was walking along a trail. Sure enough it had fishing line wrapped around its leg. So I had to run to the car, get a pocket knife, then run back and cut the line. I've found dead birds that were tangled in fishing line, and the saddest was a great blue heron along a fishing bank. Some fishing line that's made for musky fishing is extremely strong and can't be broken - it has to be cut. That one broke my heart and still makes me angry to this day when I think about it.

I'm so glad the fishing line was taken from that nest. People are so careless.

Mmmmmmmmmmm....Baps
