This was a post yesterday on the Kent, Washington eaglecam forum. I just knew you'd want to see this! :

"If any one has been following the grey squirrel nest in New York, I think it has been taken over by an owl--maybe a little screech owl? And, the owl laid an egg! A great horned owl has also taken over one of the eagle nests at this site as well. For anyone who's interested, here's the squirrel, uh, owl link: http://www.newyorkwild.org/squirrels/squirrels.htm

Click on the "home" page, and there's info and links to other nests and a blurb about the horned owl takeover of the eagle's nest.

These things are addicting, aren't they?? Every morning I "travel the world" on the Internet checking out about a dozen favorite nest sites."

Shelley, whose own squirrels recently opened and emptied her suet cage then threw it on the ground....AGAIN!!! Next thing you know, they'll be leaving me nasty notes!

Shelley, You really must do something about those bushy, tailed rodents getting into your suet feeders. LOL Have you seen the suet feeders with wire cages around them? The wire cages have openings large enough for small birds to get through, but should keep a squirrel out.

My little red squirrel feeds from one of my suet cages. He can't open it, so he breaks off small chuncks with his (her?) paws and then sits on the branch to snack away. I keep two suet cages full with one on a hook in the middle of the back yard. The birds feed freely at the open one, while they share the one on the tree with the squirrel.

Thanks for the link too.

Rose
