What is the fastest animal in the world. Everybody says it's the peregrine falcon, but it's NOT...... go to http://www.grandmatrix.com/cgi/forums/ik...E=02;f=7;t=1987

If there's anybody who knows, can you say the answer?

Welcome, temp!! Good question but that link would not allow me access. I'll take a guess, though. Would it be a cheetah?

Please stick around, we welcome newcomers to our cozy little board. Jump in wherever you like

Good question...I went to the link and was told I needed to log in to reply, I didn't attempt to go any farther.

As for a guess... It seems to me the Peregrine has been clocked at "diving speeds" of over 200 MPH, I know Shelley's guess of the Cheetah can't run that fast... But, the question does say fastest "animal" and not bird, hmmmmm is this a trick question? My guess too, is the Cheetah is the fastest land animal.

I echo Shelley in inviting you to stick around and post often. Thanks for the challenging question.

Hi, sorry about that url. It is here.

Anyway, this is actually solved already. But now, since we know the answer, it's obvious so strange because it's an insect! A really wierd thing. Could anyone tell me how this works? I'm confused.

I found this link for the "Tiger Beetle". I'm not sure how they determine it to be the "fastest" animal at 2.25 KmPH. Shelley, can you convert this to MPH? If this is thought of as fastest, is it based on size of creature? I think I'm a bit confused here.

Rose,

"2.25 KmPH"??? That makes no sense to me. 2.25 KPH=1.39 MPH. How can that possibly be the fastest?? In looking at the list, there were other responses that I questioned, as well, but in truth, I don't know the answers, myself, so who knows, they may very well be right. But there were several that just instinctively didn't *feel* right...Live and learn, I guess
