Hi!

I just bought a Jade plant a few weeks ago, and I noticed it was called a "succulent". I was hoping we'd get a cacti/succulent Host at Bella so I could ask about them! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Could you tell me about the Jade plant, and what exactly are succulents? I really love the shape of the plant, with it's leathery leaves!

I had two Jade plants that gre really big. I know that you should only water them every two weeks. Part of being a succulent means that store water (I think  ) I read that you shouldn't feed them because they grow so fast .. so I fed mine and I love them !! I put them outside in the summer - not in direct sunlight- and they seemed to be stronger at the end of summer.

I have a HUGE Jade plant, I'll have to post a photo of it sometime. I don't water it very often and keep it in a sunny area of the kitchen. I give cuttings of it away to friends to try to keep it under control and it keeps growing larger and larger. We almost want to find a new home for it because it's a bit on the large side. Don't overwater them, they decay easily if they get soaked.

here's a good place to get info on cactus and succulents:

http://www.succulent-plant.com/home.html

if you're really interested, join your local cactus & succulent society. i belong to the one near me, and they have monthly meetings, classes, shows, and sales.

i've been collecting and growing them for the past 5 yrs. or so and it's definitely become an obsession.

most do well with very little water, and won't tolerate too much water. there are some amazing flowers, some pollinated by flies, some by moths, etc.

have fun!
