I can only speak from my own life but I'm afraid my family has not preserved much African Culture. Your post has actually made me think about "why" that is......and I think that like myself and many other AA families now, we have no real "connection" to our African roots....have not ever been to Africa.....are not aware of the various African traditions, etc. Part of that may because we don't have a registered history and by that I mean that because of slavery, documentation is not always accurate or available...not to mention that when slaves were brought here, they were NOT allowed to read or write...it was illegal to do so.
I have also heard (tho I don't know this for sure) that some true Africans don't like African-Americans....because they consider us not true African because of the fact that most of us here are 100% full blooded African.....
Anybody else heard this?
