The fall equinox marks the day of equal light and dark hours that happens in late September. This date was observed and marked with many kinds of celebrations by pagans worldwide.

According to StarCalc 5.72 the Sun passes the celestial equator on the 22nd of September. At this time the Sun is in Virgo.
Once again, I don't know much about astrology (and how bound different religions and beliefs are by its traditions), but astronomy is just a question of observation.

There's a new article up for Mabon.

Mabon is one of the names given to the autumnal equinox. This day of equal hours of sunlight and dark was observed with many rituals of offering and gratitude.

I will be doing my usual autumnal equinox plans. We will either camp out or head for the country before daylight, and observe the sunrise. I moved the center point for Stonehedge, and we are starting all over. We will mark the point where the sun rises, then walk around in the woods for a while. It is my neighbors 93rd bday, so I will be coming back to town to celebrate with him, and then in the afternoon head back to the country to mark the sunset. Then we will have a stargaze. It has been gorgeous weather here. I will make my friend some appropriate equinox food for his birthday. And I can't think of a better way for me to spend the day, we lived next door to each other for 8 years and I am his only visitor. We get together several times a week and talk and laugh the entire time.

I remember you talking about Stonehedge last year. That sounds great and I hope the weather is clear and that you get things aligned just right.

Also, it sounds like you have a great time with your neighbor and I'm sure you'll be a great gift to him on his birthday.

Thanks Rae. I hope you have a great Mabon. I hope everybody does. My friendship with him is a gift to me, he is a kind and gentle man. He drives to the grocery store and the doctor. He gets a cancer shot every week; four years ago he was diagnosed and they told him if he took the shot he would last for two more years.!! Tomorrow I am spending the day cooking meat sauce and lasagna for a bday surprise, and Tuesday I will start pouring over my Mabon recipes. "Ancient Ways" and "Wheel Of The Year" by Pauline and Dan Campanelli are my favorites for getting me in the mood. "A Kitchen Witch's Cookbook" by Patricia Telesco, paired with fresh local produce guarantees a good time in the kitchen. I still have a few vidalia onions, so I will be making this: bake an acorn squash, cut in half and scoop seeds out, stuff with wild rice, top with chopped vidalia onions, and top onions with medium-sharp cheddar, or cheese of your choice. Broil til the cheese melts and enjoy. If you do not like raw onions, saute them first. Yum.
