Imbolc, also known as Candlemas, is the beginning of spring, with the Goddess transforming from Crone to Maiden. This holiday owes many roots to the fire festivals honoring the Irish goddess Brighid. Imbolc is observed over Feb 1st-2nd with a bit of spring cleaning followed by a warm hearth gathering of family and friends. Fresh grain breads and rich cheeses are an appropriate offering to the gods and snack for celebrants. Did you know that the modern Ground Hog Day is related to these festiviites?

hi there, i just joined today, and wanted to wish eveyone a wonderful Imbolc!! What are people doing to celebrate? We will be making candles, creating Brigid's crosses, and meditating. And later, trying to avoid living room where my husband will be watching the game!!

I'm don't have any firm plans, but I'm hoping to maybe bake some bread, dust and freshen my altars, and work some more on my owl mask.

I may also try to get out to the Arboretum here in SF and see if anything is starting to bloom.

Well, Punxatawny Phil has spoken or whatever it is that groundhog's do, and he definitely saw his shadow this AM.

Six more weeks of winter, folks.....
