Hello,

I've just posted a new Ask Janet article:

Ask Janet - Black Magic And Psychic Vampires A woman asks about black magic and spells--wondering if a friend is trying to curse her new relationship.

Hi Janet!
The last article you've posted has really helped me with one of my problems. One of my friends is a true energy vampire. Thanks to your insights into the problem, I now know how to deal with it. Thanks a lot!
I also have a question that is somehow related to the one discussed in your article. I often notice that when something new begins in my life, be it a relationship, a new project or something else, it runs quite smoothly until I tell someone about it. Then it is suddenly ruined in a moment, quite unexpectedly and unexplicably. I've thought for sometime that one of my friends may be envious and that these bad feelings are what destroys my plans. But I have very good relationships with all of my friends, and I don't believe anyone of them can be that bad (for, I think, a really powerful bad thought is needed to cause things to actually happen). I've also analyzed my relationships with some people with the help of Tarot, and the cards say they love me and wish me only good. But things still continue happening, and I'm totally at a loss - totally! Do you have any idea as to what it all might mean? I'd appreciate your help and the help of all visitors interested greatly.
Love,

Elena,
I'm curious... I see that you've asked the cards regarding your friends, but have you asked the cards about the cause of the situation?

It seems that there should be a spread that would particularly address this sort of thing-- like a 'causes' spread, or a 'path leading up to' spread. I don't know if these exhist, but it'd be interesting to find out. Hmmm... maybe this is something for the Tarot forum as well.

What immediately comes to mind is that sometimes if we speak to anyone about a private project or desire too soon, we may lose some of the energy behind it. Or other people's ideas/comments my make us doubt ourselves... hmmmm. I'd be interested to hear what Janet has to say.

Elena -

Have you ever heard of the Magus Creed? Here's the whole thing in case you haven't -

To Know, To Dare, To Will, To Keep Silent
Are the four words of the Magus.
In order to Dare, we must Know,
In order to Will, we must Dare,
We must Will to possess Empire
To reign, we must Keep Silent.

It's the last part specificaly I'm thinking of. While most people use this in magic I apply it to daily life. Unless I have absolute faith in the person I am talking with I don't say anything. To me, everything is energy and even one negative thought can disrupt energy I have put out into the universe. So until something comes to fruition, I never say anything to anybody I don't completly trust, and that's a very short list.

Shannon

Shannon,
I've read this in the book, The Craft, I think it is, that I have. I'm not quite sure what it means. Could you explain to me what it means to you?

Thanks

I've used a spread called "Ankh" (not sure about the spelling as usual) to analyze the situation. It's a very mystical one: it addresses subconscious desires, carmic influences, etc. The spread said that all of my problems arise from emotional disbalance, not being in control of my own feeligns and not understanding them. The suggested solution was to try and adopt a more analytical view of my inner world, analyze my feelings, emotions and relationships with people. This surely is a very good advice, but I still don't see in what way it is applicable to this particular problem. The cards also said something about a domineering and cruel man who will enter my life and be a hindrance to the successful sorting out of the situation. I have no idea of what this all might mean...

Hi Elena!

I'm glad you found the article helpful. It's a problem many people seem to face.

Boy, have I noticed this phenomenon as well! I'm inclined to believe it has to do with what Michael mentioned: you lose energy when you speak about it. I tend to think of the creative process (whether this be creating a work of art, a new relationship, etc.) in as energetic gestation. To speak of it prematurely is to discharge energy prematurely...which can result in an energetic abortion of sorts.

There is something holy and sacred about silence. I'm reminded of Mary after she gave birth to Jesus, and how she reacted at the proclamation of the angel: But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart (Luke).

Out of curiousity, did you draw sword cards for yourself and perhaps a sword court card for the "domineering" man? I'm wondering if perhaps you're being encouraged to practice detachment and an "observer" position rather than an emotional one. Also, the "cruel man"...I was just wondering if perhaps being analytical and strong was a part of you that you're being called on to develop...and doesn't really represent a man at all. (Just some musings )

There are spreads that could address this type of issue, including a 3 card quick solution spread:

The nature of the problem
The root of the problem
The solution

Or, you could devise your own spread/s to suit your needs.

You could even do a spread like:

Card 1 - You
Card 2 - Your friend
Cards 3-5 What happens if you don't tell your friend
Cards 6-8 What happens if you do tell your friend

You'd then get an energetic portrait of a case to case basis.

I hope this helps!

Hi Janet!
The cards in my spread were mostly cups and swords. As far as I understood, the advice the cards gave was not to assume an observing position, but to try to go deeper in my soul and analyze why I feel what I feel, why I react the way I react, etc. As for the cruel man.... Well, I had two neighbouring cards - the Emperor and the Queen of Swords. You see, I have a Thoth Tarot deck, and in this type of deck, reversed cards are not taken into consideration (well, they are, but they are treated just as the usual ones). The thing considered is the influence of different suits on one another. Swords are hostile to disks, and cups are hostile to wands. Nothing is said about the Major Arcana, but my experience shows that in the majority of cases swords and Trumps influence each other negatively. In this case, however, I'm not sure. If the influence here is positive, the whole reading will change dramatically...
Thanx for providing the simpler spreads. I think I'll try one of these today or tomorrow. By the way, I've never tried creating my own spreads! Maybe, it's time to start doing that.
Thank you soooo much for your advice!
Love ya all,

Hi Elena!

You're most welcome. You can indeed create your own spreads; in fact, it makes readings more meaningful IMO. I've just written a review of a book called What Tarot Can Do For You which I mention on the Tarot And Its Uses thread.

However, there is actually a book that is dedicated specifically to the topic of creating your own spreads:

Designing Your Own Tarot Spreads

Of course, there are many ways to read Tarot, including considering how the suits may modify each other. I'd trust your intuition over any book, though.
