Holiday Greetings!

I've just posted an article called The Christmas Spirit. The Christmas spirit is universal, finding it's way into the tapestry of all the great religions and spiritual traditions. I identify six manifestations of the Christmas spirit, and how they correlate with the Biblical story of Christ's birth.

Feel free to share your own take on the Christmas spirit and what it means to you!

We didn't celebrate Christmas in Russia. We give gifts for New Year, instead, and we have Father Frost instead of Santa Claus. He looks exactly the same though. I prefer New Year to Christmas, because it's not tied to any particular religion, so it doesn't force anything on anyone. It's a chronological holiday, that's it.

The spirit of New Year makes more sense than the spirit of Christmas. It's "out with the old, in with the new" reevaluation of your life, coming to terms with what you've done and setting goals for next year.

That's fascinating, Ice Queen! Does that mean that no one in Russia celebrated Christmas, or just your particular family? And there's no "Santa Clause" per se, but he's called Father Frost? I wasn't aware of that...very interesting.

No matter when it's celebrated, I think that the winter holidays have similarities that I mentioned in my article, and reviewing the past and taking inventory--as well as looking towards the future, can be a meaningful part of those celebrations.
