What does it mean when a person *hates* smells? As in, can't tolerate any smells whatsoever?

Me, I don't even notice scents in the first place, much less be disturbed by them. Out of all the smells I've ever smelled my favorite was patchouli, what about you?

Well, I once encountered a person who could not tolerate smells and she had some kind of environmental disease where her system was overwhelmed. Perfumes, for example, really bothered her. Other than a biological reason like an allergy or a highly sensitive system, I don't know why a person would hate all smells.

I have a very, very sharp sniffer on me. I've often joked that I could work in the perfume industry making up scents. When I smell a perfume, I can usually sort out several scents that make it up. Sometimes, I talk to the ladies at the perfume counter to see if I can guess what's in it. I'm usually right.

So I have a very sensitive sniffer, and can't stand smells like cigarette smoke. It makes me nauseous. Personally, I think cigarettes should be banned in all public places!

I love so many scents...it's hard to just pick a few! Coffee, cinnamon, pumpkin, peppermint, cocoa, fresh air on a Spring day, grass, flowers, my son's neck ...I love far more many smells than I dislike!

I believe I smelled patchouli once in a store, and wasn't big on it. Incense tends to be too overpowering to me, and I can't handle it. My husband likes it, though.

Any other scents you like? And, do you know someone that hates all smells? eek

See, I always felt a little inadequate for not noticing smells. You know how to women it usually matters what kind of perfume they are wearing, you know so that the perfume would fit the mood, etc. And I don't associate smells with any moods whatsoever, and they don't do anything for me, I don't get it. I wish they did.

Well, I certainly don't think it's anything to feel inadequate about. We all have different strengths, even in how we observe and process our information. For example, I can't remember song lyrics and movie lines, but I've seen other people that can. I have a photographic memory for written things many times, but apparently not for audio.

Personally, I don't equate perfumes with mood. I just know what I like and what I don't in a scent. Unfortunately, though, what I like and what smells good on me may be different! Before I got pregnant, Tommy smelled good on me. Once I got pregnant, and my chemistry changed, it made me smell like a skunk.
