ok you know how you hear all those stories about how people bought a rare car for 100.00 or brought a table at a tag sale for 25.00 and its worth thousands. wellll. ..

at work we have an employee bulletin board on day I saw an ad that said spinning wheel and stool 100.00. I called the lady and she said all the parts were there and as far as she knew it worked. Her exhubby had bought her the wheel back in the 70's on a trip to new england. She bought the wheel in I looked at it. It seemed fine, it was complete with distaff and even had a cute lil stool. I bought the wheel. It sat dormant at my mother house for a year. I recently took it to our first spinning group meeting. I found out the wheel is a country craftsman. And from doing some research I found I got a steal. Sadly the extra bobbins and lazy kate that had orginally come with wheel are no where to be found however. I have found a source for both!

The band was dry rotted and a friend is helping me replace that. Im looking forward to learning to spin on a traditional style wheel <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

just thought I'd share this. I had to tell someone and my non spinner friends just dont get it. LOL

WOW~! You are lucky! All spinners hope to find a deal like that. I know I always haunt antique stores hoping to find a great deal on a wheel. Unfortunately, what I find are wheels that are about half there that the store owner insists are in working condition (this usually means to them that the wheel still spins when pushed with your hand...). They always want a mint for these sad little wheels, and I don't bother to argue with them. They are looking at them from a decorative and historical point of view, and don't realize I want to actually use them!

Enjoy and congratulations! Please let us know how fixing it up goes!
