Where do you like to hike? Or backpack? There's so much to do and see, and if you have a place you'd like to hear about, or a skill you need help with, please feel free to post freely! I promise to check in and answer your requests to the best of my knowledge.

No, really, tell me what you want to hear about...as you may have noticed, my first set of articles are all about the Grand Canyon. Seems I like it there. But maybe there are other places, hmmm? Utah's sandstone playgrounds, the high Sierras, deep in the heart of the Baja peninsula?

Or at least feel free to drop in and say hi :rolling:

I love hiking in Maryland and Virginia! Just ouside Washington is Great Falls National Park... the Shenandoah Mountains are a good 1.25 hour drive but accessible and still somewhat challenging to the speediest hikers.
Great Falls National Historic Park is just outside the beltway of D.C. The Rocky River Trail is fun and challenging. Catch the view by the high water marker near the second overlook on this trail.
Here's a link to Northern Virginia Hiking Club...these people kick [censored] on the trail. http://members.aol.com/nvhc/

Hey Jenn! Thanks for stopping by. I'm going to have to head out your way next fall for some mega-gorgeous fall hiking. I miss the colors out east. Then I'll post some hiking reviews. Thanks for the link too, I'll add it to my list of clubs to call in your area. <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Okay, Jen and other east-coasters. I added an article just for you, about hiking in North Carolina's Chimney Rock. I highly recommend a detour to this destination if you are in the area. Worthy hiking, great views, funky rock formations. Go check out my article at the Hiking and Backpacking article page at Bella!

Can you give me some advice on how to get fit for backpacking? In my 20's, I was a backpacking and mt biking nut, but a desk job and life turn the 30's me into a lazy bum! Needless to say, I have some weight to lose. For the past 4 to 5 months, I have been walking twice a day (about 2 miles); and have slowly improved my eating habits. I feel great so I've adding some things: more cardio and weight training. However...I'd like to have a guide to make sure I'm on the right track...plus i would like to train to hike the Ozark Highlands Trail in fall. Help, please?
