If you are not Jewish and a Jewish family has a baby are there any rules about giving a gift?

I know in the Chinese culture, the first month of visitors is only close family so I just don't want to step on anyone's toes by giving an acquaintance a gift for his new son.

We have actually a womderful book intorducing Hebrew to our newborn grandchild. The life cycle is amazingly delicate and strong; the balance of life and lght come together to make a glorious sound. Do not underestimate your hope for any new lfe; do bless each new life with a broad foundation on which to build a future hope.
