Do you get a case of stage fright just before a performance? What do you do to get over that?

I tend to not be nervous if I am prepared and have done a performance piece more than once in public....I usually just repeat positive affirmations in my head like "You know this routine....", "You're gonna do ok.."....I even think about what I have planned AFTER the performance. For instance I had to perform on Valentine's Day. Before the performance I simply thought of NON-PERFORMANCE stuff...stuff that I had planned for that evening like me & my honey goin to dinner at our fav Indian restaurant....

What really helps me when I sing is to do something silly, something that gets my mind off of the event and makes me laugh. Find someone to play a silly childhood game with. Maybe try games like Rock, Paper, Scissors; hand clapping games; or putting one fist over the other in any direction you wish. Sing the Oscar Mayer weiner song. I dunno, whatever works for you! Hope I helped!

My favorite quote is from Spiderman when Aunt Mae tells him " With great power comes great responsibility. "

I always think about what i'm going to do after the performance. Like if our family is going out to eat - where are we going, what I'm going to order, what's for dessert! (that's really important)

Well, I've only performed twice and both times things happened that eliminated any jitters.

I stressed for a week before the first one. It was a long affair and I didn't go on until toward the end. I was so tired by then I just wanted to get it over with! and wasn't nervous at all!

The second time, the person in charge of our music messed up the order in which we were to perform. I heard my music and I had no choice but to grab my sword and get out there! No time for jitters.....this made me start off a little behind and I had to adjust my dance to catch up. This also happened to another girl and the instructor told us that she was very proud of us because this happens all the time in performances and you need to be able to go with it.
