Hello everyone. Newbie Beth here. I usually try any remedy I can get with different results. I did try that Airborne product (from a friend's recommendation) but it tastes pretty rancid and I hate having to clean the cups several times a day after I take it. She recently gave me a new product called TriMune (sp?) when is just a tablet that I swallow (no cup cleaning). Anyway, I did take it when I started getting a sore throat and it never progressed into anything else :-). I think TriMune is made from the same company that is mentioned in the herb article that Victoria wrote about re: Alternative medicines.

When I have a cold, I put on my warmest clothes (winter coat, even), get a cup of hot tea, a few glasses of hot water and a bowl of the spiciest chili I can handle and sit down in front of the radiator. It brings your body heat up quickly and basically induces a temporary fever. I stay like that until I'm super-sweaty, and then cool myself off again. Fevers are our bodies' natural way of killing viruses, this is simply my strategy to help that process along.

Newbie here. I am a fan of natural stuff & Dr Mercola at mercola.com has a few testimonials of folks using hydrogne peroxide at the onset of colds & flu. Pour half a capful of hydrogen peroxide in one ear - you must hold your head to the side or it will drip out & dont let it get in your eyes! Leave it in your ear for 3 minutes, or until the bubbleing stops. The more it bubbles, the more it is working. Some doctor says its putting your fingers in your ears that spreads colds. The peroxide doesnt hurt, it kinda tickles. You can do this several times a day, in each ear. But you must get all the fluid from the peroxide out of your ear or that may cause other problems.

Some folks actually delute it & spray it up their nose everyday & swear they never get colds. This does sting...

Menopause is hard enough without being bombarded with xenoestrogens everyday!

Garlic & cayenne at the onset - like in your chili- definitely helps.

Thyme tea once a day and onion soup are also good. Kale and broccoli have natural sulphur which also helps (eat these regularly so you don't GET a cold!)

One of the problems I found when I was suffering from colds and allergies often was that my system was just too overloaded. I started paying attention to things like the lymph, liver, and kidneys. If they can't process out the 'yucky' stuff that's usually when I would get ill. I found Hannah Kroeger's books http://www.peacefulmeadowretreat.com/index.asp?cat=166200 had some great home remedies to help keep your 'system' clear and ideas for things to do when you are ill.

When I feel that itch in the back of my throat and my nose start to stuff up, I use Oscillococcimnum. The one I use is made by Boiron and is in the form of little pellets that you melt under your mouth. I swear I have reversed every cold I had coming on with the help of this stuff!
