I have a cat stuck behind the washer. He and the dog got into a tussle and he zoomed back there so the dog could not get to him.

Now he won't come out. I tried calling him, shooing him out with a broom and squirting him with water. He won't budge and I need to get him out of there! Any advice?

My solution would be to 'shake the shack' (referring to an inexpensive brand of treats) or use the can opener on a particularly smelly can of cat food. In a pinch, you can move the washer. Bribery works wonders though :-)

Did he come out? He's probably in shock and terrified of being hurt. And probably your rousting techniques scared him even more I would go with the food suggestions - I always find shaking kitty treats can get a cat out of anywhere. Also, I find it works well to leave the cat alone for a while so he calms down and trusts that it's safe out there again. Open some favorite food in a loud manner, put out some treats, and back off and talk to him softly and soothingly. I bet he'll come out. Good luck!

Thank you both. I did get him out and put him back outside. And fortuntately, with enough time to clean before my husband got home so the dander would not bother his allergies.

He is a nervous kitty now, but I hope that means he won't be sneaking in again.

That's great, I'm glad it worked out

We're all allergic to cats here but we still have 3 and 3 birds too. We have an air filter that runs in the living room that is *great*, and have a central vac. Between the two, everything works out pretty well.
