Last night I was getting ready to go to my health club, and I considered wearing a necklace I recently designed. Then I decided it would be weird, because I'd get all sweaty and so forth. Still, it was a silver and bead necklace, and wouldn't have been damaged or cause any problems if it got a little sweat on it.

Do you wear any jewelry - besides maybe a wedding band - when you're going to be getting sweaty exercising? Do you see it as fun - or pointless, like you might view wearing make-up to the gym?

I tend to take off what I think of as excess jewelry, meaning I take off anything that isn't in a permanent body piercing. I'm the only person I know of who's idea of not wearing jewelry nonetheless still means she has 28 rings on her....LOL!

It would take me 45 minutes and two pairs of specal pliers to take out just all my earrings, so really, if the pair at the bottom of my lobes that I change regularly are out, that's no earrings to me. I've learned not to snag the rest of them and no others have the potential to hit me in the face or head jewelry-wise.

For me, it's not the sweat, it's the comfort. I sometimes wear lots of jewelry when dancing, but the movements don't seem to conflict with things like rings and bracelets. I will watch out for longer and heavier necklances if I really want to get my groove on. However, with exercise, where I bend and flex all over, and also wind up lying down at times, I find that excess jewelry gets in the way or bugs me.

lol - Oh yeah, I forgot about body jewelry, Rae! Twenty-eight! That really would take a while. I do have my one little navel piercing, and that one is always on. I've become so used to it that I don't even think of it as jewelry anymore.

I think I'm with you that confort - and safety - should be the number one concern.

Nah, I never wear jewelry to the gym. It feels stifling and cumbersome, somehow. I don't even wear my wedding rings.

Well, it's been a while since I've been to the gym but I wore my earrings (hoops) and rings.

As for your necklace Chris I think it be a great form of advertising. When someone likes a piece a jewelry they always ask where you got it. In your case you could say "I designed and produced it. Here's my card." Or something along those lines.

If you want to wear it then go ahead. THere's no hard and fast rules.

You're right, Moe. I have an excuse to wear my own designs to the gym, or anywhere. It's a perk.

Janet, you don't wear your wedding rings? At least you don't have to worry about them getting damaged, or pinching your finger skin. I always have trouble doing yoga with my rings on for that reason.

But does the hub know . . . ?

Hey, one benefit of lots of jewlery is that it adds more weight...so if you're lifting, you're giving yourself an extra workout That might be stretching it a little!

I don't wear jewlery usually, unless you count a belly ring. Sometimes if I forget I keep my earings in.

Oh my goodness, that's hilarious! My little belly ring doesn't add much weight, but I've certainly seen some folks who would gain a few pounds if they wore theirs! lol

Hi Chris,

Yeah, my husband knows. In fact, his wedding ring hasn't fit him for several years and he just hasn't taken the time to get it re-fit--so he doesn't wear his, either. He did have it on his keychain, but I told him that was a good way to lose it...

Sometimes I run out of the house on errands, and don't wear my rings.

When I'm "done up" I wear not only my wedding rings, but several other gold rings, earrings, gold bracelets, sometimes a necklace... LOL

I got in the habit of not wearing my wedding rings at home because of my son: when he was a baby my diamond ring sometimes scraped him as I was holding him or feeding him. I took them off for safety reasons, and found that it's much easier to do housework and such without them.

I never do that. For small walks I keep my earrings which are studs and that's it. For other outside activities and long walks I take the studs out. When I exercise it is always at night before showering and then too the earring studs are out to where they will stay until I'm done with my morning routine.
