I have had over 30 short stories published (in venues ranging from micro press, small press to professional publications), and a collection.

I had a couple of short stories published years ago in a romance magazine. Not sure if they even still have those. I framed it and got 2 checks for $125 each. Big money 20 years ago.

I found it more difficult to write short stories tho than non-fiction, informational articles.

That's great Shaun - I'm really pleased for you - any writer who can get as far as being paid for even one can be congratulated!, and thanks for posting on the forum, but maybe you didn't get a chance to read the Forum rules and new updates?

I'm going to have to lock this topic to give shaun a chance to read and respond (sorry everyone - remember I changed it to no Links/urls (inc me) for the moment, unless by some chance Shaun is a bella editor?)

Shaun, would you mind removing the link please? You are welcome to mention it by name in passing though!

Thanks very much,
Siobhain

I've just seen that my short story collection, 'Voyeurs of Death' is listed among the nominees for the Dark Scribe 1st annual Black Quill Awards, which is a new award to honour works of dark genre literature horror, suspense, and thrillers from both mainstream and small press publishers.

Wow - you got a listing? Well done! Let us know the results? I wish I could set a whole week aside to just do submissions!

I will be reviewing some submission sites soon - any suggestions?

Well, I just had a short story sorta kinda published in my writing group's anthology. It had to pass the submission committee so I guess that is a plus. Kinda hokey but oh well. LOL.

And I have to say -- on a slightly different vein -- that this writing group that I participate in has been THE BEST THING for my writing. It forces me to produce (we all bring in our own writing - no prompts or writing during the group) and makes me analyze it in a way I never had to before (we read it aloud and everyone critiques).

That counts for publishing in my book!Well done you - Nobody wastes money publishing things that are no good?

What was it about? (I am occasionally allowed to have Guest Editor stories in my articles!)

Writing groups - I have never found the time I should for this. I use my son and daughter as guinea pigs! They are very long-suffering, but also picky! so that's good!

I wonder what other peoples experiences are?
