When I was a child, my mother would have us recite poetry while we did housework. She started a poem and we finished it and gave the author. My favorite poet at the time was Carl Sandburg, and once on vacation, we found a home he had lived in as a child. The home included a bench once owned by Abraham Lincoln. The guide said that the youngest person who could recite a Sandbug poem could sit on the bench. I was the only person who could! It was the highlight of my trip. So...you never know when a good poem will come in handy.
