Five Rivers Vineyards Offers A Toast To Oscar Nominee Sideways
Sideways Salute At The Beverly Hilton Offers Fiver Rivers Pinot Noir Exclusively
Miles, Jack, Maya & Stephanie Will Find A New Wine Discovery In Gift Bags
Paso Robles, Calif. (Feb. 21, 2005) - Five Rivers Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir will be served exclusively at the Sideways themed Oscar-Time Awards Suite at the Beverly Hilton hotel during a week-long build-up to the Oscars. Celebrity gift bags will also feature the wine.
Miles and Maya would appreciate discovering the much-awarded wine, which is crafted by winemaker Steve Peck from some of the famed Santa Barbara vineyards, such as Bien Nacido, featured in the Best Picture Nominee Sideways. And like the moving soliloquy offered by supporting actress nominee Virginia Madsen in her role as Maya, the Five Rivers Earth Goddess that graces the new label of this central coast winery has her own take on why Pinot Noir has gained such glory in the wake of the movie's love affair with the wine.
"The sages claim her beauty is rooted in hope and ancient wisdom, moonglow and memory," reads the label, "but only the Pinot Noir grapes of the Central Coast know, for they share her secret, fragrant earth fed by water from five rivers that spring from the mountains to meet the ocean's embrace." And in prose that would bring a smile to Miles, the Goddess offers that "the fertile land infuses Five Rivers Pinot Noir with delicate style and soft, aromatic grace, making dinners beautiful, rich in laughter, flavor and memories."
The Sideways Awards Suite is part of a larger series of "browse & borrow" Oscar-Time Award Suites available to Oscar nominees, celebrities and various designers as they prepare for a walk down the red carpet next Sunday. During the week access is restricted to entertainment media anxious to see what the stars will be wearing {and drinking } and the celebrities themselves. There are suites devoted to jewelry and lifestyles alongside those focused exclusively for the sexes. Nominees and celebrities who will be in the spotlight arrange to feature jewelry, for example, which is worn on the red carpet and returned when the post Oscar parties come to a close.
All the shopping and deal-making can be exhausting, so a relaxing glass of Pinot Noir is just the thing for the weary celebs. Five Rivers Chardonnay from Monterey County will also be served.
"It's no secret that Pinot Noir is rapidly gaining in popularity directly as a result of Sideways," observed Andrew Varga, SVP, Managing Director, Marketing for Brown-Forman Wines, parent company to the Five Rivers Winery. "Our Five Rivers wines from the Central Coast boast the same sense of wonder and whimsy so evident in the movie, so the opportunity to salute Sideways and broaden exposure for one of the most affordable, great tasting Santa Barbara Pinot Noirs is a natural."
The Awards Suites, produced before each major award show by Monkeys In Pants, are open each day from Noon to 9 p.m. in the week preceding the Oscars ceremony. Popular television shows such as Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight will be on hand to closely examine every aspect of the Oscar ritual.
With Five Rivers, they will find enchanting new wines from the Central Coast of California, with each varietal featuring colorful labels with fables from the Goddesses of Earth, Air, Fire and Water, the basic elements that bring life and shape the vineyards producing Five Rivers wines. All Five Rivers wines are sourced from vineyards along California's beautiful Central Coast. The Five Rivers Pinot Noir ranked as one of the Top 100 Best Buys by the Wine Enthusiast magazine, and as one of the Top 50 Wines Under $15 by the Beverage Testing Institute. The winery, based in Paso Robles, also offers Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
"It's easy to guess who we'll be rooting for next Sunday," smiled Varga. "Let's hope the Goddesses special powers can lift Pinot Noir, and Sideways, to even greater glory."
