Not every parent likes their children to receive candy for the holidays.... I am one of them!

One thing that I give other kids is $1 gift certificates at McDonalds OR I search the party favors aisle at the local discount store for treats like pencils, erasers, glow in the dark skeletons.

For class parties, I usually send some simple cupcakes with orange/brown/green/black topings on them.

For school parties, we do little cups with crumbled brownies and gummy worms mixed in. This "dirt and worms" is a big hit with the younger kiddos.

As candy alternatives, we do trading cards, baseball cards, coupons to McDonald's, Burger King, Sonic or coupons for the $1 Dollar store!!

You all are probably going to think this is weird but I sent in soap baskets to the teachers and they loved them. When it came time for the "friendship party" (Valentines's) the teachers suggested to my kids that I make very small heart shaped red soaps to go in their goody bags.

I was so surprised but apparently it was a hit!

How's that for an alternative? LOL!

I also like to go for the party favors. When we have bday parties and such I really try to limit the sugar to cake and ice cream.
