Has anyone ever taken the cruise Ft. Lauderdale to Panama Canal? What did you think of the cruise and what are the highlights?

Lived in the Panama Canal from 1980-1982 in Gatun (Atlantic side). My in-laws are taking a Carnival cruise in April 2003 beginning in Ft. Lauderdale, going through the Canal, stopping in Costa Rica and Mexico and ending in San Diego, CA.

They did this same route (on Princess) several years ago and they love the temperature, the varying sidetrips available (canopy trips, horseback riding, SHOPPING!, etc.,) and they say the people they meet seem to be "genuinely" friendly (native peoples).

Some of the places they are going to hit this next trip are: Cartagena, Costa Rica - Mazatlan/Acapulco, Mexico. They are very excited.

Hopefully, someone with more current information will leave a post for you!

Kitty

Kitty, sounds a bit like my upcoming trip. We're crusing on Princess, leaving from Ft. Lauderdale; however, we will only be going half way through the canal and then returning. Some of the places we will visit are Cartagena, Costa Rica, Cozumel. The liner we are going out on is the Coral Princess and she will be making her maiden voyage in Dec. She is not as large as some of the other ships.

I love Princess. After your inlaws make their trip on Carnival, I will be most interested in hearing how they liked it.

Kitty, well, due to the unrest in Columbia, Cartahagna (sp) has been cancelled and Ocho Rios (Jamaica) has been added. I still need to do some studying up on this trip - all I know is I am going on a cruise!

Colombia has been a volatile country since I can remember. I am sorry that Cartagena is off the itinerary, but Ocho Rios is FANTASTIC!!!!!!
