Lake Superior State University selected words and phrases that make up its 30th annual List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-Use, Over-Use and General Uselessness.

What word would you add to the list?

Paula. I sent them a word or should I say phrase, "self-esteem". Babies are born with a lot of self-esteem "ego" and it doesn't have to be taught. <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Paula. from a Christmas Carol "Those that go around with self-esteem on their lips should be boiled in their own oil with a stake of Holly through their heart". Self-respect and respect are concepts that need to be pushed in school. Self-Esteem has a very, very negative connotation (the Sun revolves around the World and the World revolves around ME). Self-respect is the gift we give to ourselves and respect is something to be earned. There are times when we are not winners nor does every endeavor have a visible reward. <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I agree. As a teen I was shocked when I actually read the Bible and the words, "Love your neighbor as yourself."

Whoa! Not denegrated myself (self-respect) and not denegrating others (respect for others). An equal balance.
