If you have a scarf pattern and it is real easy and it say cast on 27 stiches but it doesn't say how much yarn to use? and what if I want it wider? How do I calculate all this????????????
HELP!!!!!!

It all depends on what pattern stitch you are using. If you are using a pattern stitch that requires multiples of 4 then you would add 4,8,12 etc more stitches to make it wider. In order to estimate yarn you would have to make a gauge swatch and go from there. I think that the lion brand yarn site has a sort of estimate on how much of their yarn you need to finish projects so you could sort of use that as a guideline.

I am useing all garder stiches thats why I love the pattern.

If you wanted it to be just slightly wider, then at the beginning cast on 4 more stitches are you using large or small needles ? If it is large needles then you don't want to add too many stitches (maybe 6 stitches) and if you are using small needles then you could safely add up to 10 stitches to make it wider. Does that help ?

The needle size depends on the yarn used I dont use and thing under a size 7 for a scarf.
