Are there any reported side effects or problems with the herbs used for menopause symptoms?

These are possible side effects for Black Cohosh, each herb that is used for menopause would have different effects. It may not be advisible to use convential and alternative menopause treatments together.
Since Black Cohosh can lower blood pressure antihypertensives and this herb shouldn't be used together.
Though it has virtually no toxic effects, black cohosh may cause stomach upset in certain people. One study suggested that it may induce slight weight gain and dizziness in some women. It may also lower blood pressure. a very high dose can cause nausea, vomiting, reduced pulse rate, heavy perspiration, and headache.

Thank you for your answer. I don't think I have any side effects, but I don't take the maximun dose.
(It's kind of hard to judge about weight gain since we're going through the holidays!

Hello Ladies and welcome to the forum. I've been away from the computer since before Christmas but am now back with newfound energy.

I take Black Cohosh for hot flashes and menopausal symptoms (mood swings, etc.) and haven't had any side effects. There are a few as was mentioned above. I've experienced none of those, and it's nice to know that most herbal remedies don't produce side-effects unless a person is taking "real" drugs. Then a thorough check for interaction is in order.

I did a little more research and found out that if a woman experiences heavy bleeding during menstruation, black cohosh might not be the best idea as it improves blood flow.

Just another little caveat.

Happy New Year!

Monika
