Copied from my Altmed forum at delphi.com:

A friend of mine sent me a message with these wonderful recipes for home made scents and splashes...surely an uplifting exercise if nothing else. The pleasure of making the easy to concoct "perfumes" will have you in seventh heaven just from the essential oil smells wafting around your head. These oils are available at many health food stores and places like Lush or the Body Shop. If you can't find one of them, send me a message and I can direct you to an online store.

p.s. Pat, if you have any more, be sure to post them here. Tks. m.

Hi,
I'm reading old e-mails and am finding some interesting things. I thought this perfume list sounded like fun and you might want to give some of them a try. (as if you have time for it... Right?)

PG

Lisa sent these home recipes for fragrances that are natural
and may be easier on the nose. The oils that are called for
can be found in health food stores and stores that sell body
oils. Thank you Lisa for all of these wonderful recipes...

5 drops lemon verbena essential oil
10 drops mandarin essential oil

Combine the fruit peels with the vodka in a jar, cover and
let stand for 1 week. Strain the liquid, add the essential
oils and water to the liquid. Let stand for 2 weeks shaking
jar once a day. Keep in a dark bottle or keep in a cool dark
area.
----------------------------
Soothing Summer Body Spray

combining all the ingredients. Place in a pump spray bottle.
----------------------------
Orient Nights
4 drops sandalwood
4 drops musk

5 drops lavender essential oil
10 drops chamomile essential oil
10 drops valerian essential oil
Mix all the ingredients together, shake well. Then allow the
perfume to settle for at least 12 hours. Store in a cool dry
area.
------------------------------
Enchanted
2 cups distilled water
3 tablespoons vodka
5 drops everlasting essential oil
10 drops peony essential oil
10 drops sandalwood essential oil
Mix all the ingredients together, shake well. Then allow the
perfume to settle for at least 12 hours. Store in a cool dry
area.
------------------------------
Amaze
2 cups distilled water
3 tablespoons vodka
5 drops hypericum perforatum essential oil
10 drops cypress essential oil
10 drops rosemary essential oil
Mix all the ingredients together, shake well. Then allow the
perfume to settle for at least 12 hours. Store in a cool dry
area.
--------------------------------
Misty Passions Perfume
3 drops passionflower
2 drops ylang ylang
3 drops neroli
1/2 pt (300ml) 70 percent alcohol or vodka

well. Leave for 1 week.

---------------------------------

Even though the above recipes have vodka in them....apply
fragrances, don't drink them :-)

Well I got to your page and tried my own forum but nobody has answered me. Unless I did it all wrong. How do I get somebody to send me a message on my topic? I figure everyone thinks I'm nuts so nobody wants to talk to me. Unless I did it all wrong. I really wonder why I even try. I just get more and more frustrated whenever I try anything on this stupid computer.
If you go to my forum try to send me a message or see what it is that I've done wrong.
Thanks for your help.
P
Oh since I've got your attention... I want to send a web address to a friend by e-mail so she can just click and go to it but I don't know how you make the address go there. I think it's some sort of a cut and paste which I can do but I just want the address from the web site. I can type the address in but will that make a click address so that she can just go to or is there a way to do it from the actual web page?

Hello Alien,

You're in the Alternative Medicine forum. And you must be the person who sent me the perfume recipes by e-mail. I'd certainly appreciating hearing more from you on that subject.

Do you have a forum somewhere here on delphi. I could check it out and post there, but I think you mean that you're now here...signed up and so on. All you have to do is reply to this message when you get to it, whether it be today, tomorrow or next week. Did you click at the bottom where it says "do you want to be notified?" That way, any time someone replies or puts a message in, you'll receive an e-mail with a click through right back here, where you just sign in every time you come to the forum. I hope that makes sense to you.

Re. giving a friend a website to click on, all you have to do is type the site address in starting with the http://www. or even leave out the http:// because it will automatically light up on your page when the .com is in place. Then the person who gets it just clicks on it and away she goes.

You can copy and paste it from the address "screen" at the top of the browser if you know how to do that...you highlight it so it's darker than normal, click copy in the "Edit" drop down...switch over to the e-mail page, put your cursor on the line where you want the address to go, click on edit again and click "Paste."

O.k....now ask me something about alternative medicine..... ;-)

Regards,

Monika

Hello,

Just thought I'd mention that there's been a lot of media information in the last couple of weeks about aliens...well, UFOs anyway...showing up in Alberta, Canada. There are stories of varying descriptions of intense lights, triangular shapes, etc.

I certainly feel that there are probably extra-terrestrials checking us out from time to time...and I've even believe I've seen a UFO (a number of years ago.)

Now that you mention mental illness being a factor in preceiving these things...maybe I'm mentally disturbed too. In fact, I go from believing they exist to thinking that that's absolutely silly and is simply a trick of the mind, that when it happens, I immediately think my brain is deficient in certain nutrients.

Do you get that feeling too. The brain is such a delicate instrument which needs its own form of electricity that it's all to easy to sluff off the need for food. And the problem is that when our brain goes downhill it's hard for us to make that decision anymore!

I'm just going through this situation with my Mom who's starting to have delusions and thinks that I'm going into her house (I don't even have a key) every time she's out and doing whatever...she's never told me what she thinks I'd want to do there. Last Saturday she phoned the police (who came over to check things out) because she thought I had climbed into her basement through the tiny little windows. If I didn't laugh at these "incidents" I know I'd be crying and in my heart I am.

The point is that Mom's not eating properly anymore even though I bring her food every few days and take her out to lunch or dinner once a week (as does my brother.) I just found out that she eats cookies for breakfast and probably throws my food out for all I know.

Nutrition for the brain is as important or more important than something just to fill the stomach to ease hunger pains.

Let me know what you think about all this.

I look forward in trying them.

Can you buy frankincense at the health food store as well?

Hello Markki,
Yes, most health food stores carry Frankinsense. Or you could try places like Body Shop or anyplace that sells essential oils.

If more people knew how easy it is to make eau de toilette and perfume I'm afraid the big companies would go out of business. Did you know that 95% of the cost of an expensive perfume goes towards marketing? It's almost criminal...but then most women are suckers for great scents, aren't we.

While you're at it (at the health food store) be sure to buy a bottle of inexpensive (relatively) almond oil or other carrier oil to make yourself some body oils. Pick up a variety of essential oils that you like and then mix and match or use singly in warmed oil or even just a small jar of room temperature oil. You can use it mixed with body lotion or by itself in the bath or on dry legs and arms in the winter.

Or, you could try putting just a few drops of your favourite (mine is still Lavender) essential oil in your bottle of bubble bath to intensify the scent...or, for that matter, your body wash or scrub for the shower. The sky's the limit.

The big point is that the wonderful smell in the room while you're washing and relaxing will add to the therapeutic effect of your ablutions.

I spend at least a half hour or an hour in the bath every night just relaxing with my scented oils and a good book.

If you have trouble getting any of the ingredients, let me know. And if you don't happen to have vodka around, you can use practically any type of clear alcohol like Gin, Advokat, etc...just make sure it's not a liquer. ;-)

I big cup of herbal tea, such as Sleepy Time, goes well with the whole relaxing procedure...that is, unless you're showering...

Regards,

Monika

p.s. This is all prompting me to place an order with my trusty herbal company for a new supply of oils and herbal teas. I always order at least $100.00 worth at time so that I don't have to pay shipping. m.

The soothing summer body spray sounds nice. I like lemon and with cucumber it sounds like it would be a light fragrance.

Thank you.

One day, a woman walked by and she smelled wonderful. Kind of spicy and very exotic. I asked her what she was wearing, she said it was her own.

Now that you mention it, I have seen the round table at Body and Bath, with oils or perfumes. Next trip to the mall, I'll definitely stop in.

You've inspired me. Again, thank you.

I'm eager to put something together totally my own. I often use the essential oils on pulse points, but to have a refreshing spray to invigorate and splash with abandon sounds great.

I wrote down a couple of your recipes on your Bath 'n'Body forum. Thanks for directing me there. One question though, the base for one of ther recipes was dishwashing soap. I have a clear one, but I fear that it contains as much SLS and SLES...as a commercial bubble bath would. I'll try to get some of the pure liquid soap, but thought I might use some Ivory Snow laundry soap.

I was shocked to read my el-cheapo bottle of bubble bath which I grabbed in a rush in the store and didn't look at the other week...to find that it contains BOTH SLS and SLES. I didn't think personal body care items had SLES in them. For some reason I thought it wasn't approved by the FDA. That's the one that's used for degreasing motors and other things in heavy duty garages.

Do you know anything about this?

Hi Markki,

It's fun to make something all your own. It's amazing what so few ingredients can produce.

I just found a simple, sumptuous bath oil to which you can add your special combo of scents. And it's supposed to be the very best for dry skin:

20 drops sesame oil (cold pressed)
15 drops avocado oil "
10 drops almond oil "
10 drops Vitamin E oil(natural d-Alphatocopherol)

Mix and keep in a small bottle beside the tub or on the make-up counter as it can be used under the eyes (keep out of eyes) and to remove make-up. The Vitamin E might make your eyes water, leave it out of the mix next time.

Add Lavender, Fennel bergamot, neroli, patchouli, or any of the wonderful scented oils when using just for bathing or as skin protection.

Let me know what you come up with for a personal atomizer.

I'm going to Mexico in 2 weeks, so a nice airy spray will be great for the summer temperatures down there. ;-)

Regards,

Monika

Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) is in 98% of bath/hair care products. It's the milder form of SLS.

Here is an interesting article you might want to take a look at that discusses the FDA's involvement in such things.
