I hope you had a good time when you visited your friends in Chicago. Was it recently? Many things are changing in the Chicagoland area. My Mother
lives in Niles and that area is mostly Polish people, they have many Polish stores and Churches. On the street were Mom lives everyone is Polish. When you were here did you get a chance to visit Holy Trinity Church on Division Street? Even though this church is in a Hispanic area now, it used to be all Polish, but anyway the Church was saved by the Polish Community, my Mother and most of her friends still travel to this church at least once a month. Polish people
donated money to save this church and have it remodeled, it is just beautiful. I have many memories of this church, I grew up attending mass there and also attended the grade school.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!!!

Barbara,

I was thinking about St. Stanislaus church in Chicago. I forgot exactly how this district is called but there are not Poles living nearby anymore. At least not that many as before.
Was thich Church not promoted to a cathedral recently?

Hi Frank,

I don't think our world will ever have peace. Our world has too much Hate for everyone and everything.

My Mother told me many stories of what she and our family lived through, so much sadness and pain. One story was about my grandfather feeding and hiding Jews during the war, they were neighbors and grandfather helped them as much as possible without getting caught.

I will tell you a little something...when I was growing up I never really listened to the stories that family and friends spoke of about their lives in Poland and what they went through. I knew that they suffered and had a lot of painful memories. When I met my husband (on a blind date) I didn't ask him what his nationality was, he was a nice looking Marine in his uniform, he was stationed in South Carolina and home on Christmas leave, we only had two dates before he had to return to base. A week later I received a letter from him and my Father
noticed the last name on the envelope, he asked me who is this Ukrainian, I said I didn't even know he was Ukrainian and what's the big deal!!!
Father told me that I was never allowed to see this UKRAINIAN AGAIN!!!He proceeded to tell me about what happened during the Wolin tragedy, I
felt sorry that he and my family had suffered through this but what did this have to do with me and Michael, we were both born after the war and didn't have anything to do with it. When Michael was discharged from the Marines we continued to date without my parents knowledge, when he proposed to me I was a little afraid that my parents and family would hate me but I was in love and didn't care. We have been happily married for over 34 years and my parents have come to love him as well. Michael's father was Ukrainian and his Mother is Polish. When they married they were disowned by both of their families and never saw them again, that is worse. I am lucky to have found such a wonderful man.

Hi Jaga,

This church is called Sw. Stanislawa Biskupa i
Menczennika...I have not been there in ages...the area is not very good. I only go to
Holy Trinity Church for Christmas Eve Mass and sometimes for Easter Resurrection Mass. I still love the traditional Polish Mass with Processions. I live far away so I don't get a chance to attend many Polish churches, we don't have any in my area, only Spanish.

We live in central Missouri, USA. I homeschool my two daughters and we're reading about Poland and enjoying some Paczki today.

We're planning on visiting Poland in 2006.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired
signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are
not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. The world in arms is not
spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the
genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children....This is not a
way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening
war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron.

Dear Irina,

Would this perhaps be where the Robin Hood of our long ago tales lived?

Actually, I live across the channel from you here in Bremen.

Hello Tamlyn,

You are lucky you are able to stay home and homeschool your two daughters. Did you enjoy
your paczki today, did you by any chance bake them yourself? Home made paczki are the best.
Missouri is a beautiful state, we have some
friends that live in Truxton, it is very lovely
there, they have a pond and lots of land. I have also been to Branson, we had a wonderful time there. I'm happy to meet you and I hope we can
chat again sometime.

Karl, as a child in Bronx, NYC, USA, I met actor Cornel Wilde who played Son of Robin Hood in the movie: "Bandit of Sherwood Forest." In that movie, Prince John (Basil Rathbone) said: "Take them out & hang them all." Carl
