Just remembered that I wrote an article about scalp massage a while ago. It gives some good pointers.

I had a student stylist at my hairdresser once and I felt in love with her because she was just SO GOOD in giving a massage. I was not in luck: it was her last week at the salon and then she had to do some exams and passed her school. Damned, it felt so good I wanted to know where she would go so I wouldn't wash my hair at home any more and let her do it. *sigh*

I am letting my hair grow out after 25+ years of short styles. My hair is healthy, almost shoulder length but my roots around the crown of my head hurt.Could this be due to added weight on my scalp?
Does anyone else experience what I am talking about? Its really hard to describe.. <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Thanks for any and all advice.

If you think that the added weight of longer hair is causing this pain, that is not possible.

I have heard the Nioxin is helpful more than once also.
Has anyone here actually tried it?

You are correct, the added weight of your longer hair could be causing the scalp pain. I've heard of this many times when people have sensitive scalps. Some with very thick hair even experience headaches.

The same type of pain often occurs when someone changes where they part their hair.
