Would like to get natural highlights in my hair. Have heard about people using henna. I have black, thick, wavy hair. I don't want to get highlights at the hair salon as I find it tacky look when new hair comes in and don't want to keep going to have it done over and over. Anybody tried using henna? What was your experience? How long did it last? I think it is also supposed to be quite healthy for your hair, correct?

Cheers again.

The only way to highlight black hair is to use something that 'lifts' the color. - As in some kind of bleaching agent. This can be done without getting blond highlgihts. They can be just a shade or two lighter than your natural hair color. Like red or brown. Real henna will not lighten hair. It might give your hair a red cast but that isn't likely since your hair is so dark.
Highlights don't fade away, they must grow out.
You could get tiny strands of a color that is close (only a little lighter) than your natural color so that they won't look ugly as they grow out and won't be hard to cover up if you want to.
