These styles always come back into style. Which one do you prefer?

I have to say I have worn both hairstyles and the only one that really works for me is the shag.

My history with bobbed hair is more of the Dorothy Hamill hair thing that happened when I was in junior high. All that blow drying, curling and spritzing... oy! I always had one nemesis piece of hair that stuck out and ruined my life.

Now that I have embraced the idea of not trying to straighten my curly hair in any way, a shag is great. I just have to keep a close watch on my top layer to make sure it doesn't get to long (ie flat) and after that, it's let the curls fall where they may.

You are fortunate you can wear your curl natural. My hair, curly, is a lot more work than if I blow it out. The curl is so uneven it looks pretty scary when left on its own. eek

Jessica
You have had some big changes! How long does it take you to grow your hair out after a short cut? Did you grow it out after the permed look or have it straightened? :rolling:

Well let's see... I had it super short when I found out I was preggers..... by the time the baby came it was down to the small of my back. I used to grow it out and then have it hacked off once a year to give to charity. We've got a salon here that takes the hair for kids with cancer. I've done that for about 15 years.... now I'm just kind of into having my own hair lol.

That pic was me experimenting, trying to decide if I wanted to perm my hair. Normally my hair is pretty straight, with just a bit of a wave to it.

Lynne,

I didn't always wear my hair long and curly, and used to think that doing a bunch of stuff to it was better. But I've found other ways of dealing with my hair, and this is what is working for now.

Here is my hair from June 1999, when it was last super short:

As you can see by my avatar, taken June 2002, it's quite a bit longer now. My hair grows pretty slowly. When it's uber short, it acts straight. Everything from that point out, until it starts to get down below my ears, is wavy. Longer and it starts to turn into lovely long curls. Like one of my favorite old viney office plants.

So that's what I'm trying to encourage now. I have to say, since quitting my job at the end of last year, I have noticed that the thinning area in front is regrowing. When I lift up my long bangs, there are all these little curly shorter hairs along the hairline. queen

Thanks, Jessica!

When I went to renew my passport this fall, I wore a cut-away tank top to get my pics taken, just so my tats would show on my passport.

I figure, if they really need to figure out if it's me or not, why not help?

Your hair grows amazingly fast! The norm is 1/2 per month. Even while you were pregnant when hair sometimes grows faster, you should have gotten only about five inches! You are so lucky.-Unless you want short hair of course.

Rae
Do you think stress was causing your hair to thin? Stress causes a lot of health problems.
I like these two pictures better than the one you have on the Body Art site. We can see your great smile!

Jessica,

Regarding long hair that stops, I have read that this is primarily due to the condition of the hair. At a certain point the weight is too much of a stressor and the hairs break, making the hair growth seem to stop at whatever length.

Supposedly not brushing too vigorously, conditioning more and avoiding other instances that physically stress the hair will help achieve greater length.

Everone's hair has a point where it will grow and be healthy.(Different for each of us) Beyond that point, the hair gets 'old' and will break, split, frizz and just be funky hair. Floor-bound, not worth keeping.
Jessica, you are fortunate to have fast growing hair and that you can get it as long as you do.

I think that terminal point 'shortens' as we age, have babies, health problems, etc.
There are several articles on the Hair site that deal with keeping healthy hair. You will find them in the Site Map under Health.

These two styles are not really my type of styles but the shag style looks better than the bob style to me (had to open a new window to find pictures of the shag hairstyle because i had no idea what that was blush).

The bob has been around for a long time - longer than the shag - and keeps returning to fashion.
I love the layered bobs worn with big messy waves.
