What do you think of the hairstyles for fall?
I love the new 'shag'. I write about it in Season's Best
That is my opinion. There are other popular styles. What do you think?

The shag style looks neat! Very easy to care for, which I like. I suppose that's why the Meg Ryan styles are so popular, no complicated care. Just towel and go

Speaking of Meg Ryan, I think I mentioned before that I've always wanted to try being a blonde. I was always very jealous of my younger sister who was blonde. I have hesitated before because my hair was so long and it would take an eternity to grow out again. But now that it's short, maybe I should try it!

I worry though that my coloring doesn't work well with blonde hair. Judging by my other photos, is there any shade of blonde that might be reasonably well with the rest of me? What do I do about my dark eyebrows?

A good place to start is with a highlight in a beige blond shade. Not too cool toned.(silver or grayish-too much contrast)
For your eyebrows; you can trim them to make them look lighter without haveing to try to color them. I use a comb with fine teeth and slide the teeth thru the eyebrow hairs and then trim the hair that sticks up on top of the comb. Having them shaped to a slightly narrower look will help too.
If you highlight, the natural hair in between the light will blend in your darker brows.
Is all that understandable?

OK, I found a hair salon nearby and sent them that note. I have one in my small town that I used for the "chop" but I don't know that I trust them for coloring. We'll see if I can do this in the next few weeks, I'll post a photo when I do

I think the shag is one of the easier layered styles for home styling since its a more messy look.

Personally I like many layered styles but I only like them done if the stylist explains to the client how to get the look themselves at home. Some layered looks require a lot of blow drying and use of a round brush and if the client is not used to using these tools they might get frustrated. We had a stylist come to our school to demonstrate a layered style w/ highlights and when he was styling it he did a trick that he said could only be done by standing behind the person. He made a little flat spot in the crown area with the brush. Maybe he was wrong, maybe not. He also was complaining that our hair dryers were not hot enough for him to use which means chances are a client would not have his hair dryer unless they shopped a beauty supply store and bought the type he uses.

Also the products used could be a factor.

However I'm not gonna lay all the blame on stylists. Some clients want styles that don't suit them or they don't do the things they were told to do to get the right look.

Who knows maybe this could be a good topic to discuss. Maybe everyone could learn something.

I know a lot of clients complain that their stylist doesn't listen but the same can be true for the clients.

Anyway as I said The Shag looks like a nice easy style.

If a client wants a style that doesn't suit them, it is the stylist's responsibilty to tell them and to tell them why. In the end, you do what the client wants. It is also the stylist's responsibilty to explain how to style the hair. I always do easy-care styles unless I know the client loves to work on their hair. It doesn't do my reputation any good to give a client a style they can't handle.

Exactly, I'm glad you are out there Lynne. I wish I knew people who lived near you because I'd definitely recommend you.

I hope more stylists or salons will start paying more attention to caring and less about getting people in and out. Again I realize there are difficult clients but hopefully they are in the minority.

I'm sure the things you just said are why you love your job. Its probably what has kept your clients returning.

Agreed and for the most part people would rather make that mistake than not. Life would be dull without mistakes and regrets. Besides lots of learning comes from it.
