What did you think of the Bishops' Conference and the zero tolerance outcome for child molestation? It's a shame it had to come to this. The leadership should have had more commonsense than to let this happen in the first place.

It's good that they're taking the steps now, and I'm sure like everything in life this crept on them slowly. Probably they had a really friendly, well loved priest that was caught once, and they didn't want to destroy the congregation with a one time mistake. And then it sort of snowballed ...

Like having a husband that hits you. First he just sort of pushes you and then apologizes. Then he sort of slaps you and then apologizes. Each time it's just a bit more so you feel like you can't complain about X if you've already put up with Y. But it's still all awful and none of it should be tolerated.

Society is always going to have pedophiles - they've been around since the days of the Greeks and Romans - so we just have to be better about finding them and dealing with them.

Agreed, it is a terrible situation that we have to deal with.

The only situation that makes me mad is that of Bishop Weakland. He broke his vows by having a relationship with another adult man. Now this is being protrayed as abuse. This is not the same as a pedophilia. This is a 30 year old man who made his own decision.

That's true, there's definitely a difference between an adult choosing to enter into a relationship and a child making a choice. It's still not right, of course - it's in the same category of a boss going after his secretary. Or a psychologist going after his patient. While they're both adults, one is in a position of trust and control over the other ...

Agreed. I don't condone what he did. It just seems that we are loosing some perspective.
We need to deal with the real issues and problems and not manufacter others to add to them.
