Well, Becca and Greg started the new school year this week. As I mentioned on other sites, I will be teaching Becca full time this year (my neighbor taught math & reading the past two years). This first week went fine. The first couple weeks are strictly review from last year so its not too difficult right now. So far, we've stayed within our time parameters - no more than 2 1/2 hours/day for school. In fact, we've been getting it all done within 1 1/2 hours.

Greg is going over to my neighbor so I can just concentrate on Becca. At the beginning of 3rd quarter (January) I may take over Greg's schooling too. We'll just see how everything is going. If not in January, definitely next year.

I'm doing the Classical Education approach with Becca this year. I really like this approach for History, so far. Becca and I are having fun learning about ancient history. She can't wait for the Ancient Egyptian period. She saw one of the books I bought about cat mummies and she's excited to read it. For Science we're studying Biology (Human, plant and animal life).

The CE approach is nice because it allows you to use whatever curriculum you like. You can bring in alot of Christian viewpoints if that is your desire (which is mine). It just basically shows you how to break up the subjects into corresponding years and in more detail, how your days could be broken up. Plus, it gives you alot of reading resources to check out at the library.

I will say that the CE approach does require alot of preparation on your part. At least I feel I does, but then I want alot of extra books for Becca to look at in regards. I probably reviewed over 200 books the past 3 months looking for supplemental items.

Anyway, I've been rambling. Just thought I'd check in. Haven't been quilting much. finally got the fabric from my MIL to finish Greg's quilt. I'm actually excited to get working on that again. Hopefully by the end of summer it will be completed. I'll post a pic!

Your homeschooling plan sounds great! I am still trying to get our house in order so that I can start working with James more. My first objective of course is teaching him to read - I finally unpacked a big box of his books today so I can spend time reading to him again.

Let us know when Greg's quilt is done and upload a photo, of course. I will have to live vicariously through the rest of you for a little while until I finish the hawaiian shirts (that is a story for another post).
