I got it at the store, but when I cut it open I was at a loss how to eat it. Any ideas?

I THINK it's a Horned Melon or Kiwano Melon. You eat it sort of like a pomegranete (sp?) by sucking the gel from the seed/s and then, spitting out and discarding the seeds.

Someone suggested that they have very little taste, so you might want to chill it right before you try it.

Oh great, one site says it's an aphrodisiac because it's "horny" and the other warns that the seeds are toxic!! That doesn't seem very aphrodisiac-like to me, unless you feed it to someone you don't like to get rid of them

It does look cool, though!!

I should also add it was a royal pain in the butt to even try to eat the seeds. They didn't want to come out and when they did they were mostly seed, with only a thin layer of the gel around each.

I think it's a kumquat --- have never really tasted it fresh. Mostly in the form of juices does it come on teh market...as to eating it...really have no idea...it makes a great decorative peice though!

hehe, you would pick the most irritating fruit to eat, wouldn't you lisa? Yes it is a horned melon, we have those all the time out here. Hey lisa, if you're experimenting with fruit... try some star fruit! You just slice them up and eat them, and they are very delicious. They have a very mild flavor.

I've tried star fruits before, those aren't bad. This Horned Melon is definitely a "display only" fruit though
