Buy some Calamine lotion, at first sign of acne, dab a little on pimple with Q-tip. Can rub off a little when dry if going out and leave the rest on as a foundation cover. Heals while you're out and about. Use at night, and great for red rosacea areas as well. If really red, walk around while doing chores with a little zinc oxide cream on red areas. Disappears fast.

tea-tree and whichhazel(SP?) also work well,

there are some anti-septic creams that are made from these natural anti-septics and they work extremly well even on the large cyst like spots I get on my back most spot treaments availble in the UK are essentaily clensers, and though prevention is better than cure if you do have a cronic problem with spots then it is generaly well worth a consultation with a doctor if in the UK as its free <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> and there are antibiotics specificaly desiged to combat cronic acne in order to prevent the scaring (both mental and physical) that it can cause.

enough of that, I am a Cat in a Hat

Some folks are allergic to Calamine lotions, so watch out. Also, there are a few brands now that do not have the traditional orangey color which is more appealing if you are going to put it on your face. Whereas Calamine will dry out pimples, leaving it on the skin keeps the skin surface closed, which is often how pimples get formed in the first place.

Witch-hazel is an astringent, which will tighten pores. This may aggravate some people's skin conditions by closing the skin surface. It is very cooling and does not sting like rubbing alcohol. If I use it on my skin, it is at the end of a cleansing treatment when I want to reclose the pores of my face.

Tea-tree oil is a great anti-bacterial but undiluted it can burn the skin of some people, and it has a really strong smell. Diluted it works much better, and can shrink/remove keloid-type scarring that sometimes form around body piercings.

I am a great fan of tea tree oil. It is wonderful for bug bites of all sorts(even fire ants!) It also works on athlete's foot and various fungal problems on the skin. I rather like the smell..maybe I was an athlete in another life?
