I do wish that there was a way that a person could erase feedback once they have left it. I had a situation in 2000 where a woman had won an auction for some autographed basketball memorabilia. I emailed her the address to mail payment and I never heard from her. She didn't email or anything.

3 weeks passed and I never got the money. Or heard from her. I left negative feedback.

About a week later she e-mails me telling me that she had been out of town and that she had mailed the money the day the auction closed.

I always check my mail but I asked my husband and he said that he did have some mail from a few weeks ago in his glvoe compartment that he forgot about-and sure enough the money order was in that mail.

I felt so bad, I couldn't remove my feedback and I begged Ebay to remove it and they wouldn't.

That sucked.

Dorrie,

What you said is brings up a good point. I actually had a similar experience on Half.com. I sent the money for a book and after a few weeks, I still hadn't heard anything. (I had sent her 2 emails w/no reply.)

When Half.com sent their follow-up email, I gave negative feedback. Later on, she emailed me that her husband said that he mailed it and he thought she mailed it and blah, blah, blah. Nevertheless, she felt bad and sent it right away. She even refunded my money.

I would have liked to have been able to just erase my comments because she did right her wrong.

Maybe that will be in their next round of changes!

I thought you could leave follow up comments? I know that it doesn't erase the initial impression but actually in both cases your initial impression was right - you tried numerous times to find the person and couldn't. While that one woman did send you the money right away, she also took off. I really think you shouldn't bid on something if you're going to be out of town for weeks afterwards. What if the mail gets lost or there's another problem? So I think it's fair to complain that they 'vanished' for weeks after an auction ended ...

Lisa...you are right. You can go back and add follow up comments however, in the big scheme of things, it still counts as a negative. So if someone just skims at a person's feedback rating, they may not take the time to read the comments.

Before, the feedback changes, you had to read through tons of feedback to find negatives and neutrals. With the new changes, at least you can seperate negatives and neutrals from pages and pages of positives.

With this new feature, more people may take the time to read the actual negatives and then take into consideration the circumstances/follow-up comments.

I do believe that mistakes happen and there should be a way to correct them, however eBay does make it clear before you leave feedback that it will be permanent so, think before you type!
