We went to the coast and drove home from where we had the wedding. We keep hoping that someday we will get to go on a cruise.

Hawaii.
I don't think I need to explain why I chose it. The place is heavenly, and so was our resort.

I spent the first week of my honeymoon camping out, waiting for contractors to finish our house; and then moving all our stuff into the new house (house should have been finished a couple of months before the wedding, but bad weather impacted the date... and our apt. lease expired). Then spent week 2 in bed with a head cold.

Took a honeymoon in our second year of marriage--went on a cruise. Loved it!

OK - nobody groan -

We spent our honeymoon at a placed called Caesar's Palace Poconos. It is one of those Honeymoon places that you see all the time that has the hot tub shaped like a big champagne glass and a private swimming pool in each room! We rolled our eyes at it to begin with, thinking it sounded cheesy, but the more we thought about it - we went, hmmmmm.

Since this was my 2nd marriage, and we were coming into the marriage with my two kids, it's not like we get a lot of "alone" time, so we wanted to make the most of our honeymoon romance. Sightseeing was not our biggest concern! LOL But we were up in the Poconos mountains in Feb (which was georgeous) we got to do things like go on carriage rides, horseback riding, etc. It was just a neat place to do couples things. We talk about going back there for our 10th anniversary!

For love_chloe:

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I can understand the tight budget. I'm working on an article about ways to save money on your honeymoon -- keep an eye out for it in the coming week or so.

In the meantime, could you consider a nearby destination -- a place you could drive to? (How cool would it be to drive off with that "Just Married" sign on your car... you'd get lots of attention as you road trip!) Is there a nearby, fabulous resort that you and your husband-to-be have always wanted to check out? Even if it's just a couple of nights I'm sure you could have a wonderfully romantic honeymoon at a special hotel...

Keep me updated! I'd love to know what you choose.

Michelle,

I wanted to say that I think your choice of honeymoon sounds PERFECT for your situation! My husband and I are knee-deep in raising kids, and as often as we can we try to get some "alone time" on a weekend getaway. I'm dying to know if you actually got into one of those champagne-glass hot tubs...

Yes we DID!!! With lots of bubbles, too. It was great fun, and having a private swimming pool (even if it wasn't very big) was lots of fun, too.

As for Chloe - I don't know what part of Tennessee you live in, but if you are close to the GA state line at all, there are some fantastic cabins in Hiawassee, GA (right beside Helen, GA) that are fabulous! My husband and I go there once a year at least to escape kiddos.

They don't have an official website - but here's some info
Cabin Fever Cottages
The are 3 cabins with fireplaces (and central heat and air) jacuzzi/bath tub, full kitchen (so you save money eating out the whole time). Separate bedroom and living room. They are very cozy with a back porch that lloks out onto lake Hiawassee. Absolutely beautiful in the fall when the leaves are changing (and hard to get then, so you have to book early!)

We usually spend a day doing like a picnic in the cabin and a day spent down at Helen doing the sightseeing and shopping (I love Helen!)

But this is just an idea for you.
