I prefer strictly action. What I really dislike is when the woman character is either a damsel in distress, waiting to be rescued, or (even worse) killed by the villain to give our hero motive for revenge. That type of plot feels manipulative to me. If the love interest is either so super-competent or so far removed from the action that she's never in danger, then I'm okay with a romance, but you make a good point that strictly action makes for a more streamlined plot.
