Were you aware that in ancient times, traditional Mexican weddings were often held at a bride's home, or in her parents' yard, decorated for the occasion? Both the bride and groom appeared very formal because if they were regular people, it was the one day that they could wear their most lavish clothing. In those days the groom may have even traveled, on horseback, to meet his bride.

Following the matrimonial ceremony he would take his wife to the home of his parents where they would live. They would ride there in a palanquin, a cart.

Illuminating the journey from the grooms home to the brides home would be hand lanterns. These were lit on the evening before the wedding and the grooms family would show up with a chest packed with goodies and gifts for their soon to be in-laws.

Please share YOUR Traditional Mexican Wedding traditions. Wed love to 'hear' them.
