well, depends on the stain. not so good on blood---but I have to use a stain treatment for that anyway. I found it as good as Woolite in general. It did seem to be gentle on bright colors. Have to be careful of all the suds tho---some places restrict laundry soaps that make too many suds. A touch of baking soda in the rinse enhanced the softness.
